Chemonics seeks a Washington-based project director to provide senior management for USAID-funded projects in conflict and post-conflict democracy and governance. Responsibilities include: lead home-office backstopping for field projects; provide technical leadership and project support in democracy and governance, humanitarian assistance, and conflict/post-conflict transition programming; provide strategic direction and technical leadership in the development and design of new business initiatives; lead project budgeting and financial management activities; supervise and manage field-based and Washington-based staff. Frequent travel to Africa and other regions is expected for supervisory management, technical, and new business assignments. This position is based in Chemonics' Africa region, but may include work in any region. |
| Qualifications: |
- Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience in a relevant area
- Minimum eight years of relevant project, staff, and financial management experience
- Knowledge of USAID and its operations and other donor-funded programs in developing countries, including the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance and the Office of Transition Initiatives
- Ability to conceptualize, outline, perform, and direct the research and writing of technical documents
- Ability to operate at advanced levels of authority and control significant activities, budgets, and resources to produce and take responsibility for results
- Demonstrated leadership, management, organizational, and decision-making skills
- Ability to train and mentor junior staff
- Strong new business development skills
- Ability to work in conflict and post-conflict areas approximately three months per year; willingness to consider long-term overseas assignments
- Permanent U.S. work authorization required
